KENT, Ohio – Kent State University President Dr. Lester Lefton and Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen announced the beginning of the largest fundraising initiative in the history of the athletics department. The first phase of the Building Champions Fundraising Initiative was set in motion with the groundbreaking of the Field House Locker Room project on Friday morning, and was followed that evening by the second annual Athletics Scholarship Auction held at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.

It wasn't the storybook ending senior Jessi Carmichael had hoped for in her fastpitch career when Kent State was knocked out of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Akron's Firestone Stadium Friday.
