The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced Monday that Kent State's Madison Thompson has been selected to play in the Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game.
Thompson will join 37 of the nation's top seniors at Old Dominion University on Saturday, November 19. The game provides a way to recognize the seniors' talents and allows for a chance to extend their final collegiate season. This is the third-straight year a Golden Flash has made the roster for the prestigious event. Alayna Harris played in 2015 and Hannah Faulkner was the first Kent State student since 2011 to be selected her senior year of 2014.
The Waterloo, Ontario, Canada native have started and played in nearly every game of her four-year career. Thompson doesn't know what it's like to not be a champion, as she has been an integral part of Kent State's current run of five-straight regular season titles. She received All-MAC Second Team honors as a freshman then improved to be named First Team All-MAC and Second Team All-Region in 2014. As a junior, Thompson led the team in both goals and points to repeat as a First Team All-MAC member.
She made the move from forward to midfield this season and has barely left the field of play, tallying three goals and three assists, including the game-winning goal in double-overtime at Ohio to clinch a perfect 6-0 conference season for the Flashes.
Thompson and her teammates will look to take home another title as the host the 2016 MAC Tournament this weekend with play beginning Friday at 11:30 p.m. against Ball State.
