
Six Flashes Pick Up Victories on Final Day of Golden Flashes Gala

KENT, Ohio- Six members of Kent State's track and field programs captured event titles Saturday, the final day of the Golden Flashes Gala located in the Kent State Field House.
One of Kent State's six victories came from TJ Lawson in the men's hepthatlon. In today's events, Lawson took first in the 1,000m run (2:50.67) and tied for first in the pole vault at 4.6m (15' 1") as he scored the second-most points in the heptathlon in school history.Â
Ryan Looser was the other top-finisher in the pole vault and also won the heptathlon 60m hurdles en route to second place finish overall with 5,287 points. Freshman Mitchell Kubicki captured third place in the hepathlon with 4,853 points, after starting the day in sixth place. Kubicki took second in the 60m hurdles (8.64) and third in the pole vault (4.4m) to propel him into third place.   Â
Three of Kent State's victories came in men's field events. Sophomore Samory Fraga won the long jump with a mark of 6.94m (22' 9.25"), sophomore AJ Stevens won the triple jump at 15.28m (50' 1.75") and freshman Christian Champen won the pole vault with a mark of 5.2m (17' 0.75"), which is the fourth-best indoor mark in school history. Taking third in pole vault was Kyle Schlumbohm at a height of 4.75m (15' 7").
Jorian Ordway (39.73) and Riak Reese (34.55) captured the other two titles for the Golden Flashes as they won the women's and men's 300m dash, respectively. Also running in the women's 300m dash was Mi'Angel Daniels who took fourth at 41.15, Kayla Seymour who took fifth at 41.20 and Ashley Grazen who took seventh at 42.11. Daniels and Grazen also competed in the women's 60m dash, taking seventh and 20th, respectively. Samantha Shaver also competed in the 60m dash, finishing 14th with a time of 7.92.
In the women's 500m run, Tyler Williams took second at 1:14.22, followed by Olivia Gaus (1:17.10) in third and Aiyanna Crawford (1:17.12) in fourth. On the men's side, Matthew Tobin finished third with a time of 1:03.68.
Also finishing in the top five on the oval was Richard Dahome, Brandon Harris and Andrew O'Leary. Dahome finished 5th in the 60m hurdles (8.53), Harris finished third in the 60m dash (6.86) and O'Leary finished fourth in the 400m dash (1:57.06).
In the women's distance events, Jaimie Adams took second in the 1,000m (3:04.19) and fourth in the 3,000m (10:36.79), while Morgan Arena finished fifth in the mile with a time of 5:21.59.
Abdul-Nasser Seidu competed in the triple jump and high jump, taking third (14.17m) and fifth (1.9m), respectively. DJ Ohlson took fourth in the high jump at 1.95m (6' 4.75"). In the men's shout put, David Paliscak captured fourth (17.28m), Walter Petzel took seventh (16.33m) and Trevor Detillion took 11th (15.38m). Â
After the holiday break, the Golden Flashes return to action as they host Doug Raymond Invitational in the Kent State Field House on Saturday, Jan. 14.Â
