
Leppelmeier Wins Hammer Throw on Day One of MAC Championships

TOLEDO, Ohio – Kent State's Jackie Leppelmeier secured the hammer throw title to kick off the 2016 MAC Outdoor Championships for the Golden Flashes on Thursday, May 12 at the University of Toledo.

Leppelmeier posted a mark of 60.19m (197' 6") to claim her second career MAC championship. Finishing second behind Leppelmeier was Gabrielle Figueroa with a throw of 57.96m (190' 2.25"), followed by Rebecca Leppelmeier in ninth at 53.18m (174' 6").
Golden Flashes took spots four and five in the women's pole as Samantha Tollerud took fourth at 4.13m (13' 6.5") and Morgan Estes took fifth at 4.03m (13' 2.5").
Anna Lombardo added another four points for the Golden Flashes, taking fifth in the javelin with a distance of 42.52m (139' 6.25").
In the men's javelin, Nick Holley finished seventh with a mark of 50.38m (165' 3.75"), while Nate Holley finished eighth at 48.33m (158' 7").
After day one of the decathlon, Tyler Jones sits in fourth place with 3,474 points, followed by Ryan Looser in fifth with 3,392 points.
With four events completed in the heptahlon, Chelsea Laury ranks fifth with 2,967 points while Aspen Gaita is in seventh with 2,823 points.
The men's hammer throw was the last event of the day, as Reggie Jagers III finished ninth at 52.28m (171' 6.5").
The women's and men's 10,000m runs originally scheduled for tonight have been postponed until 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, the first events of day two of the MAC Championships.
