DETROIT, Mich.- In preparation for the 2016 football season, Mid-American Conference Media Day and Youth Football Clinic returned to Ford Field on Thursday, July 28. Coverage of media day can be seen on ESPN3, starting with MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher's State of the Conference Speech. Look for Head Coach Paul Haynes at the 59:00 mark.
Audio interviews with Coach Haynes, safety Nate Holley (Toledo, Ohio), cornerback Demetrius Monday (Douglasville, Ga.) and Commissioner Steinbrecher from Media Day can be heard periodically on Golden Flashes Radio on iHeartRadio.
In his speech, Commissioner Steinbrecher announced the MAC's expanded television sublicensing agreement which will feature more live broadcasts of the conference's games on the American Sports Network, CBS Sports Network, Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and Buckeye Cable Sports Network.
Remainder of the 2016 MAC Television Schedule
The conference also released its preseason poll Thursday, as voted on by league media members. Kent State was picked to finish sixth in the East Division. Western Michigan was picked to win the West Division and ultimately the MAC Championship, while Bowling Green was picked to win the East.
The Golden Flashes look to have another successful year on the defensive side of the ball, led by returning starters and 2015 First Team All-MAC selections Nate Holley, Demetrius Monday and Terence Waugh (Atlanta, Ga).
On Wednesday evening, Holley and Monday participated in the MAC Youth Football Clinic, leading over 500 Detroit area kids in competitive matches of tug of war. Clinic participants received two free tickets to the 2016 MAC Football Championship Game, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 2 at Ford Field.
"Our annual Youth Football Clinic at Ford Field has become a staple within our schedule for our summer MAC Football Media Day Events here in Detroit," said Dr. Jon Steinbrecher, Mid-American Conference Commissioner. "This is an incredible event and we are proud to partner with Ford Field in hosting a free youth clinic to benefit players in Detroit in an effort to give back to the city that continues to support our MAC Football Championship Game."
Preseason camp for Kent State is slated to begin on Sunday, Aug. 7. The Golden Flashes open up the 2016 regular season at Penn State on Saturday, Sept. 3. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. and will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
