Field Hockey Suffers First Loss of Season at No. 11 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – The Golden Flashes (3-1) faced their first defeat of the 2016 season on Sunday as they fell at No. 11 Stanford (1-2) by a score of 5-1.
The Cardinal had one tally in the first half as Kent State held the nationally ranked squad to seven first half shots. Unfortunately, Stanford scored quickly out of halftime for the game-winner then added another at the 47:26 mark.
Kent State's lone goal came on a penalty corner at 53:22. Ines Delpech earned her first goal of the season as Jessica Nesbitt had the assist.
Ten minutes later, Stanford scored its 4th goal, and then shortly after their final to make it a 5-1 game.
The Flashes were outshot 17-5 and were also in the deficit in corners, 6-3. Delpech led the team with two shots. Andrea Rinehart had six saves.
The West Coast trip will conclude on Monday when Kent State faces Pacific at noon.
