
Field Hockey Shuts Out Central Michigan, 7-0

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Kent State University field hockey team (6-9, 3-1 MAC) won its second straight road match Friday, defeating the Central Michigan Chippewas (0-15, 0-4 MAC), 7-0.
The Golden Flashes won on a consistent attack, scoring three goals in the first half and four more in the second. The goal total was the highest this season and the most since last season's 7-0 defeat of Missouri State.
Helen Harper and Jessica Apelt each scored twice in the match, and their first goals opened up the scoring in the first half. Harper connected on an unassisted goal in the ninth minute of the match, giving the Flashes a lead they would never give up. Apelt scored her first goal of the season in the 21st minute, with Ines Delpech recording the assist.
In the 24th minute, Alison Harmatz scored on a pass from Shannon Talbot. It its Harmatz third goal of the season and it secured the 3-0 halftime score. Kent State returned to action quickly in the second half, with Laila Richter scoring off the goalkeeper's pads in the 43rd minute. Clara Rodriguez Seto earned her first of two assists on the play.
Over the final 25 minutes, Harper and Apelt would wrap up their scoring effort. Harper connected on a pass from Apelt in the 46th minute for her fifth goal of the year. In the 62nd minute, Apelt scored again on an assist by Berta Jover Llorens.
The final goal came directly on a penalty corner in the 66th minute. Rodriguez Seto played it into Jessica Nesbitt before Delpech scored her team-best sixth goal of the season. Delpech finished with a goal, an assist, four shots and a defensive save.
Overall, Kent State outshot Central Michigan, 30-4. The Flashes forced 13 Central Michigan save, while defensively holding the Chippewas to one shot on target. Kent State took 11 penalty corners. Kylie LeBlanc played all 70 minutes in goal to record the shutout.
Kent State will stay home for the remainder of the season, starting with an Oct. 21 match against Longwood at noon.
