
Women's Golf in second place after first day of Cardinal Cup

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Kent State Women's Golf finished day one of the 14th Cardinal Cup alone in second place with a score of 9-over-par after rrounds of 293 and 292 at the University of Louisville Golf Club.Â
The only team ahead of the Golden Flashes on the team leaderboard is tournament and host 41st-ranked Louisville at 3-under par. Kent State, the 16th ranked team in the nation, also stands two shots ahead of No. 15 Illinois and No. 46 East Carolina.Â
KSU freshman Kory Nielsen will head into today's final round tied for second place individually with Virginia Tech's Amanda Hollandsworth. Nielsen shot rounds of 71 and 72, birdying her final hole of the day to secure a 1-under-par  total of 143 on the 6,250-yard, par-72 home of the Louisville Cardinals. Louisville's Lauren Hartlage shot 69-65 for a 10-under total and the overnight lead.
Michaela Finn shot 70 over her second 18 holes on Saturday to get back to even par and into a three-way tie for fourth place heading into Saturday's final round. The Kent State day included rounds of 74-73 from Pimnipa Panthong (19th place, 3-over), 74-77 by Karoline Stormo (32nd place, 7-over), and 74-80 by Kelly Nielsen (40th place, 10-over).Â
Kent State will be paired with Louisville and Illinois on Sunday for a final round that will begin at 9:15 a.m.
