
Men's Hoops Takes Down Wooster in Exhibition

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University men's basketball team prepared for the season ahead Friday, defeating the College of Wooster in an exhibition, 86-65.
Kent State was led by Jaylin Walker with a game-high 19 points, shooting 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Mitch Peterson had the team lead with eight rebounds to go with 12 points and five steals. Adonis De La Rosa was efficient, with 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting and six rebounds. Jalen Avery wrapped up double-digit scorers with 14 points, five boards and three assists.
Wooster gave Kent State a great fight throughout the game, hitting several 3-pointers to start the game hold an early lead. The opened up an 8-6 lead early, but never pulled away by more than two points. Down 26-25, Kent State went on a 9-0 run, and followed up with another 8-0 run close to the end of halftime, stretching the team's lead to 43-32. Kent State would enter the break up 48-36 after a Jalen Avery near-halfcourt buzzer beater.
Wooster stayed competitive throughout the game, but the Flashes refused to let them back in it in the second half. Kent State held a double digit lead for all 20 minutes, creating some breathing room with an 11-6 run early on. Kent State led 77-56 with five minutes to go, its largest lead to that point, and ended the game with that same margin.
Overall, Kent State shot 39.1 percent (27-for-69) from the floor and 35.7 percent (10-for-28) from 3-point range. Wooster finished at 37.7 percent (23-for-61) with 11 treys. The Flashes won the rebounding battle by a large margin, 52-33, and took 31 free throws to Wooster's 12.
BJ Duling played in front of the Flash fans for the first time and tallied six points, four boards and two blocks. Taishaun Johnson also made his MAC Center debut, scoring seven points with two assists. Senior Desmond Ridenour scored seven points and brought down six boards.
The Flashes will start the regular season on Nov. 11 against Youngstown State in the Coaches vs. Cancer Doubleheader at Akron.
