KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University men's basketball team is coming off a landmark 2017-18 season, and the community is getting behind the Golden Flashes.
Kent State entered the 2017-18 season with a 99 percent renewal rate, it's best mark in five years. Add on the dozens of new season ticket accounts, and the Flashes have hit a new high for season tickets sold during the Rob Senderoff era.
"It's fantastic to see that our fans have responded to the success we had last season," said Senderoff, who is in his seventh year as head coach. "The M.A.C. Center is a special environment when it's full and our guys feed off our fan base. Our entire program is appreciative of the support we get and work hard every day to make our fans proud."
In addition to our 99 percent renewal rate, the Flashes have added several new season ticket holders, equaling the amount of season tickets sold over the last three years combined. The push for renewals and new accounts is in conjunction with the department's Game Plan, a strategic vision that put an emphasis on men's basketball.
"When the Game Plan was released, we knew we had to make a serious investment in men's hoops," said Deputy Director of Athletics Casey Cegles. "We're grateful that our fans are behind us as we continue to push our program to the national forefront. We have some exciting plans in store for the season and expect another exciting year in the M.A.C. Center."
Entering the year as the MAC Tournament Champions, it has become easier and more affordable than ever to purchase men's basketball season tickets. The department has made several changes to its ticket pricing structure, as well as created new special rates for Kent State staff members and alumni. Fans can purchase a 3-game holiday pack for $25, scoring lower reserved tickets for games against Northeastern (Dec. 18), Oregon State (Dec. 21) and Central Michigan (Jan. 6). The package saves fans $20 on three tickets.Â
Fans can also support the men's basketball program by giving to the team's crowdfunding campaign. The men's basketball team has a fundraising goal of $5,000 in order to purchase IPad's for the team, which will assist the student-athletes in preparing for basketball and academics. The team is currently within $800 of its goal.
