Kent State Hosts Golden Flash Gala to Start Indoor Track and Field Season

The Kent State indoor track and field team will begin competition for the 2017-18 season this weekend when the Golden Flashes host the Golden Flash Gala on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 8-9) at the Kent State Field House. Athletes from 20 different schools are registered to compete at the two-day competition.
Action begins Friday with the women's weight throw at 12:30 p.m. The men's heptathlon kicks off competition on the track with the 60-meter dash at 1:15 p.m. On Saturday, the men's high jump, women's shot put and men's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles are all scheduled for 11 a.m. to start the day.
The Golden Flashes' men and women were both picked to finish third at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships, which will be held at Bowling Green from March 23-24, in the preseason coaches' poll that was revealed last week.
Kent State has 35 total athletes slated to compete on opening weekend. The women's team is headlined by 2017 MAC Champions Gabrielle Figueroa (weight throw) and Sam Tollerud (pole vault), while Christian Champen (pole vault) and TJ Lawson (heptathlon) are the top returning men set to make their season debut. Champen will also be competing in the long jump.
