
Lawson Sets Heptathlon Record at Akron Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – Kent State track and field's TJ Lawson totaled 5,666 points in the heptathlon Saturday at the Akron Invitational setting a new Kent State indoor record.
Lawson set personal-records in six of the seven heptathlon events, three coming yesterday (60m, high jump and long jump) and three coming today (1,000m, 60mH and pole vault), leading to his record total of 5,666 points. Lawson overtakes Dexter Shreve (2013, 5,525 points) for the top spot all-time and currently ranks 11th in the nation. On Saturday Lawson finished second in the heptathlon 60mH (8.53), third in the 1,000m (2:45.05) and fourth in the pole vault (4.65m, 15' 3")
In the triple jump gold division, AJ Stevens improved his career-best mark to 15.43m (50' 7.25") to finish second overall. With his mark, Stevens moves in to a tie with Rob Falchi (2011) for seventh all-time. Taking fourth place in the men's long jump gold division was Samory Fraga, who recorded a top mark of 7.45m (24' 5.25").
Freshman Swann Phelippeau recorded a sub five-minute mile to finish second in the women's gold division mile. Swann's PR time of 4:58.1 is the tenth-fastest time in KSU history and ranks second amongst freshman in the MAC this season.
Numerous personal-records were set by Kent State's men's distance runners throughout the day Saturday. In the 3,000m gold division, Brandon Avers (8:31.01) and Clark Bookman (8:33.71) set PRs as they took third and fifth, respectively. Sam Goodman finished sixth in the 3,000m blue division with a PR of 8:42.36. Grant Onken captured ninth in the gold division mile with a PR of 4:10.82, while Josh Gogan took ninth in the blue division mile at 4:23.24.
Talia Falco, Lauren Pannell and Sam Tollerud were the lone women's field athletes to compete for the Golden Flashes Saturday. Pannell and Falco fifth and ninth respectively in the high jump gold division, while Tollerud took third in the pole vault gold division at 4.13m (13' 6.5").
In the men's pole vault gold division, Christian Champen finished fourth at 5.19m (17' 0.25").
Kayla Seymour turned in a career-best performance in the 200m dash gold division, finishing in 25.16 seconds to take fourth place. Sarah Pack (2:15.51) and Aiyanna Crawford set PRs in the 800m dash blue division, taking second and third, respectively.
Jorian Ordway came away with a second place finish in the women's 400m gold division, logging a time of 56.02 seconds. In the men's 400m division, Matt Tobin (48.46) finished third and Andrew O'Leary (49.43) finished fifth.
In the 60m hurdles, Mi'Angel Daniels (8.62) captured third in the women's gold division, while Richard Dahome (8.27) captured fourth in the men's gold division.
