
No. 11 Men's Golf Takes Lead at Seahawk Invitational

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The No. 11 Kent State University men's golf team put forth a winning effort to start the Seahawk Invitational, taking a lead after two rounds at the par 72 Country Club of Landfall.
The Golden Flashes are in the lead at 4-under par 572. Dealing with tough conditions, the Flashes opened up the tournament shooting a 3-over par 291, and pulled away from the completion with a dominant second round score of 281. Kent State is the only team currently under par, with second place Richmond currently at 32-over par.
Josh Whalen is currently leading the tournament at 7-under par 137. Whalen was a stroke off the lead in round one at 71. However, he took the tournament lead with a 66 in the second round, the second best score of his collegiate career. Gisli Sveinbergsson is in second place, in line for a career-best finish at 5-under par 139. The sophomore ended the first round in the lead with a score of 70. While he gave up the lead in round two, he improved to 69.
Bjarki Petursson is tied for sixth at 2-over par 147. Petursson was one of seven players to finish round one at par or better with a 72. He finished round two at 74. Chase Johnson is currently in a tie for 24th at 8-over par 152. Johnson shot a 78 in round one, and a 74 in the second.
Ian Holt rounds out the lineup at 9-over par 153, good for a tie for 28th. Holt posted an 81 to begin the tournament and improved by nine strokes to shoot an even par 72 in round two. Competing as an individual, Spencer Dobbs is making a run at a top finish. The junior shot a 78 in round one, and matched his season-best of 70 to soar up the standings in round two.
