KENT, Ohio – The No. 12 Kent State University women's golf team is set to host the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championship April 21-23 at the Silver Lake Country Club.
Fans in the area are encouraged to come out Silver Lake for the free three-day event. Teams will tee off each day on the first and 10th holes beginning at 8 a.m., with Kent State scheduled to begin on the first hole Friday at 8:50 a.m.
Kent State will look to continue its reign as the most dominant program in the MAC. Kent State is currently on a run of 18 straight MAC Championships, the longest streak ever for any sport. This year's team has been ranked in the national top-20 all spring and will look to begin a long postseason run.
Winning a 19th straight title will be no easy feat. Toledo comes in as the second highest nationally ranked team in the MAC, followed in order by Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Akron, Ball State, Ohio, Bowling Green and Central Michigan.
Kent State will bring fresh faces to the MAC Championship, with a lineup made up of two freshmen, two sophomores and the team's lone senior, Wad Phaewchimplee. Three of the five Flashes will be competing in their first MAC Tournament.
Despite a youthful roster, Kent State rolls into the MAC Championship following five straight top-3 finishes, including two wins at tournaments hosted by BYU and Kennesaw State. The Flashes most recently placed third at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, tying Ohio State on their home course.
For those who cannot make it out to Silver Lake, live results will be available at the link above. Follow @KentStWGolf for updates throughout the weekend. Â
