
No. 15 Women's Golf Leads MAC Championship After Round One

SILVER LAKE, Ohio – The No. 15 Kent State University women's golf team is off to an emphatic start at the 2017 MAC Championship, holding a 15-stroke lead after round one at the Silver Lake Country Club.
The Golden Flashes are 1-over par at 289 after the first 18 holes, with the team's four scorers sweeping the field and making up the overall top-4. Ohio and Northern Illinois are in second place at 16-over par, while the rest of the field is 20 strokes back or more.
Three golfers are tied for the overall lead in Pimnipa Panthong, Wad Phaewchimplee and Karoline Stormo. Kent State's top-3 are all sitting at even par 72. All three golfers registered three birdies in the round, with Panthong and Phaewchimplee birdying 17 to finish tied with Stormo.
One stroke back at 1-over par 73, Michaela Finn is in sole possession of fourth place. Finn recorded her team's only eagle of the day on the second hole, and birdied 16 to come within a stroke of the lead. Kelly Nielsen rounds out the Flash lineup in a tie for 23rd. She carded a 7-over par 79 in round one.
The second round tees off at 8 a.m. Saturday, while the Flashes will begin on hole one at 8:50 a.m. The entire tournament is free to the public and all fans are encouraged to come out to Silver Lake.
