AKRON, Ohio – Freshman Madi Huck threw seven scoreless innings and junior Holly Speers doubled in the top of the eighth inning to bring home the only run of the game, as No. 4 Kent Stat defeated No. 2 Ohio, 1-0. The teams will now play once more on Saturday with the winner being crowned 2017 Mid-American Conference Tournament champion and receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
In her first appearance of the tournament, Huck (4-5) answered the call by keeping the Bobcats off the board through the first seven innings before senior Ronnie Ladines came in to earn her third save with a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
Two-out hitting continued to be the day's theme for the Golden Flashes (31-26), as senior Maddy Grimm kept the top of the eighth alive with a single and Speers delivered the key hit the Flashes had been unable to get off Ohio pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey over the previous 14 innings.
The MAC Tournament championship game will be streamed on ESPN3 with live stats available on mac-sports.com.
