CLEVELAND, Ohio – After their record-setting performances at the Ashland Alumni Open this past weekend, Kent State track and field's Reggie Jagers III and Danniel Thomas have been named Mid-American Conference Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
This is the second time during the 2017 outdoor season that Jagers and Thomas have swept the weekly MAC accolades. On April 11, the two Kent State throwers were named athletes of the week following their strong performances at the Crimson Tide Invitational.
Jagers set a new career-best mark and Kent State record in the discus, throwing 61.64m (202' 3") to take first-place in the event. For the redshirt senior, it's an improvement upon his previous personal-best distance of 197' 5". Jagers currently ranks sixth in the nation and second in the MAC.
Thomas hit two personal-record marks in the shot put en route to her first-place finish on Saturday. On her second attempt, the redshirt senior threw 18.32m (60' 1.25") and then followed that performance up with a distance 18.49m (60' 8") on her sixth attempt. Thomas' mark is new Kent State record, ranks fifth in the world and second in the nation, just three-quarters of an inch behind the top mark of 60' 8.75".
This Golden Flashes are set to compete in the Campbell-Wright Open hosted by Akron this weekend (May 5-6), the last meet leading up to next weekend's Outdoor MAC Championships at Western Michigan.
