Play Suspended Mid-Round for No. 11 Men's Golf

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – The No. 11 Kent State University men's golf team braved brutal afternoon conditions to get through most of its first rounds, sitting at 1-over par before the first round was suspended.
Kent State was unlucky in drawing a tee time in the afternoon wave, as the conditions at Rich Harvest Farms took a turn for the worst. The Golden Flashes, along with the rest of the afternoon teams, dealt with high winds and two weather delays. Parts of the round were played through heavy down pour, resulting in a tough back nine after starting on 10. The weather did lighten up after 7 p.m., allowing Kent State to shave four strokes off the score before the days action was called due to lighting.
Kent State, in the middle of the first round, will begin play at 6:30 a.m. CST on holes 3-6. Once they have completed the front nine, Kent State will return to hole one for the second round. The rest of the tournament is delayed until the first round is completed.
Currently leading the Flashes are Chase Johnson and Bjarki Petursson, who are currently 2-under par. Johnson finished with seven holes to play, while Petursson will finish six in the morning. After a couple of bogies in the rain, Petursson birdied three of his last five holes. Johnson made a fantastic putt on the second hole, just before the horn sounded, to earn his team's only eagle.
Ian Holt is currently 2-over par with seven holes remaining. Holt earned a birdie on 17 and parred three holes before play was suspended. Josh Whalen is a stroke behind him at 3-over par, while Gisli Sveinbergsson is 10-ver par with four holes remaining.
