
No. 15 Women's Golf Completes Round One of Regionals

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 15 Kent State University women's golf team has completed the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas.
After 18 holes, the Golden Flashes are currently in 12th at 17-over par 305. Kent State is looking to move up into the top six over the final 36 holes in order qualify for the NCAA National Championship. The Flashes are currently seven strokes out from sixth-place San Diego State at 10-over par. No. 7 Arizona State is currently in the lead at 5-over par.
Individually, Pimnipa Panthong leads the team at 2-under par 70. She is currently in third place overall and two strokes off the leader, UCLA's Lilia Vu. Panthong was consistent throughout the day, going without a bogey over the first 14 holes. Panthong made up for her only bogey by birdying the 18th to move up to third. Fellow freshman Karoline Stormo ended round one in a tie for 55th with a score of 5-over par 77. Stormo had a rough start to her day, but shot even par with one birdie on the back nine.
All-Mid-American Conference First Teamers Wad Phaewchimplee and Michaela Finn each sit in a tie for 69th at seven-over par 79. Like Stormo, both golfers finished well on the back nine. Finn finished the final nine holes at 1-over par, while Phaewchimplee was 2-over par. Kelly Nielsen rounded out the lineup tied for 84th at 10-over par 82. Nielsen had one the strongest starts on the team, going 3-over par on the front nine.
