
No. 15 Women's Golf Up to Sixth Place at Regionals

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 15 Kent State University women's golf team will enter the final round of the NCAA Regionals in contention for a spot in the NCAA National Championship, having moved into a tie for sixth in round two Tuesday.
The Golden Flashes moved up six spots in the standings, the biggest jump of any team, with a 1-under par score of 287. It was an 18 stroke improvement from round one. Kent State is currently tied in sixth with the top seed, No. 2 UCLA, at 16-over par. No. 18 Texas is fifth at 13-over par, while San Diego State sits two strokes back of the top-6.
After tomorrow's final round, the top six teams in the field will qualify for the NCAA National Championship. If there is a tie for sixth, the teams will play in a playoff round to determine who advances. The top three remaining individuals will also qualify for Nationals.
Pimnipa Panthong continued her strong play and is three strokes off the lead heading into Wednesday's round. Panthong shot an even par 72 in round two, putting her in a tie for fourth with an overall score of 2-under par 142. Over 36 holes, she has recorded only three bogeys.
Karoline Stormo was critical to Kent State's march up the standings, posting a career-best round of 4-under par 68 Tuesday. After starting her round with a bogey on the 10th, Stormo went 17 holes of par or less, with five birdies. She is currently sits at 1-over par 145 and in 14th place. In a tie for 44th overall, Michaela Finn sits at 7-over par 151. Finn matched Panthong's 72 in round two.
Senior Wad Phaewchimplee shot 3-over par at 75 Tuesday. She moved up 14 spots to a tie for 56th at 10-over par 154. Kelly Nielsen also moved up the standings in round two, improving by six strokes to 4-over par 76. She is now tied for 78th at 14-over par 158.
