
Fraga and Lawson Compete on Day One of NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Kent State track and field's Samory Fraga and TJ Lawson were in action at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Wednesday, to get the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships underway for the Golden Flashes.
Fraga, making his NCAA Championship debut, took 23rd in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.99m (22' 11.25"). With his finish, Fraga earned All-American Honorable Mention honors.
Lawson, also making his NCAA Championship debut, finished day one of the decathlon in eighth-place with 4,209 points. With 4,209 points, the lone freshman outpaced his previous best day one decathlon total of 4,113 points.
Lawson's best finish of the day came in the high jump, as he took third-place (896 points) at a personal-record height of 2.10m (6' 10.75"). Lawson also set a personal-record in the long jump, posting a mark of 7.43m (24' 4.5") to take sixth-place and earn 918 points.
The decathlon continues Thursday at 1:30 p.m. with the 110m hurdles.
Danniel Thomas will also be in action Thursday, as she competes for a national championship in the shot put at 9:40 p.m.
