The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday that Kent State's Ines Delpech has been honored as an Academic All-American on the At-Large Second Team.
Delpech is the fourth student-athlete in Kent State history to be named a CoSIDA At-Large Academic All-American. She joins men's golfer Kevin Kraft who was named to the Third Team in 1994 and women's golfers Gabby Wedding (Second Team in 2004 and 2005) and Martina Gavier (Third Team in 2010).
The At-Large team is comprised of 15 sports, including gymnastics, tennis, fencing, swimming, golf, lacrosse, rowing and field hockey, with only 46 student-athletes named All-America in the women's At-Large in 2017.
Delpech, a junior from Tandil, Argentina, maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA while majoring in sociology. She has received multiple academic and athletic honors throughout her career as a Golden Flash. Delpech was named a 2016 NFHCA Third Team All-American this past season while helping lead the team to a regular season and tournament title – feats that have been accomplished all three seasons Delpech has been on the team.
Kent State field hockey has not had an Academic All-American since 1994. The program had six different student-athletes receive the honor when it was given out by the CFHCA. Delpech is just the sixth Golden Flashes field hockey player to be named Academic All-District by CoSIDA and the first Academic All-American.
