
Gold Tops Blue, 3-1, in Volleyball Scrimmage

KENT, Ohio โ Gold took the first three sets in a 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 25-13, 15-25) victory in Kent State's annual Blue and Gold Scrimmage Tuesday evening at the M.A.C. Center.
The exhibition provided the Golden Flashes with an opportunity to put together what they have worked on since preseason camp began last Tuesday in a game-like setting.
Gold led in every statistical category, including kills (51-40), digs (72-68) blocks (10-4) and aces (8-5).
Seniors Kelsey Bittinger and Brittney Jakscht recorded double-doubles. Bittinger led the Blue squad with 12 kills and 16 digs. Jakscht totaled 40 assists and 11 digs in addition to five blocks while playing primarily for Gold.
Sophomore Ashley Makruski led all players with 21 kills. Redshirt sophomore Darby Connors got off to a hot start and finished with 16 kills. Senior Heather Younkin and freshman Naomi Oberg recorded nine kills apiece.
Defensively, senior Challen Geraghty led all players with 17 digs. Younkin (14), juniors Sam Jones (13) and Lexi Mantas (12), sophomore Claire Tulisiak (13) and freshman Kaeleigh Stang (12) also notched double-digit digs.
Younkin had a contest-high six blocks and Oberg registered four stuffs.
Freshman Natalie Tagala had 31 assists and nine digs.
Kent State heads to Ashland for an exhibition contest on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Flashes then open the regular season at the Cyclone Invitational Aug. 25-26 before returning to the M.A.C. Center for the Golden Flashes Classic the following weekend (Sept. 8-10).
