
No. 6 Women's Golf Tied for the Lead in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 6 Kent State University women's golf team is tied for first place after two rounds of the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship.
The Golden Flashes enter the final round tied with Illinois at 8-under par 560. Kent State came out strong, finishing the first 18 holes 6-under par at 278. Kent State followed up with another round under par at 282. Illinois had the same scores, but in reverse order.
MAC Golfer of the Week Pimnipa Panthong continued her torrid pace to start the year and sits in a tie for second place after two rounds. Panthong is 5-under par at 137, four strokes behind first place. Panthong had five birdies on the front nine in round one and shot a 66 through 18. She ended the day with an even par round of 71, with a total of 12 birdies.
Panthong was joined in the top-10 by freshman Kory Nielsen, who is tied for sixth at 2-under par 140. She was steady throughout the day, starting with a round of 71. She ended strong, with three birdies over her last four holes to card a 69 in round two. Michaela Finn was one stroke behind Nielsen at 1-under par 141 in a tie for 11th place. Finn shot under par in round one with a 70, and followed up with a 71 in round two.
Karoline Stormo made her 2017-18 debut and is tied for 15th heading into Tuesday. Stormo finished at even par with back-to-back rounds of 71. Rounding out the lineup was Marissa Kirkwood in a tie for 63rd place at 10-over par 152. She carded a 78 in round one and a 74 in round two. Competing as an individual, Kelly Nielsen is in a tie for 44th at 7-over par 149. Nielsen started the day with a 74, and carded a 75 in round two.
