CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State senior Sam Tollerud has been named Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Tollerud ranks 12th in the country after clearing a season-best height of 13'-8.5" in the pole vault Saturday at the Northeast Ohio Quad. Other than Tollerud, who owns the school record in the event, only one Kent State athlete has ever had a higher vault in women's program history.
An exercise science major with a 4.00 cumulative GPA, Tollerud also earned the award on Dec. 13 for her performance on the opening weekend of the indoor season.
The Golden Flashes are back in action this week at the Tennessee Relays, which will be held Thursday through Saturday.
