
No. 16 Women’s Golf Push Lead to 36 at MAC Championships

NAPERVILLE, Ill.- The No. 16 Kent State women's golf team stretched its lead on the second day of the 2018 MAC Women's Golf Championship, hosted by NIU at the Naperville Country Club.
Kent State remains in first place after round two as the only team under par at 9-under par 567 (282-285). The Flashes extended their lead to 36 strokes over Toledo and host Northern Illinois. Kent State has three golfers in the top-3 spots, all of them shooting under par.
Sophomore Pimnipa Panthong (Nakhon Sawan, Thailand) still leads the tournament after 36Â holes at 5-under 139. Panthong finished the day at even-par with three birdies, two of which were back-to-back on holes 16 and 17. The sophomore leads the tournament in par-4 scoring at 3-under.
Sophomore Karoline Stormo (Tvedestrand, Norway) shot the lowest second round score of the day and carded a 5-under 67. Stormo jumped from a tie in seventh place to earn sole possession of second place after her second round performance. On the day, the sophomore birdied five times. Stormo leads the tournament in par-5 scoring at 4-under and has a total of seven birdies after 36 holes.
Rounding out the top-third spot and tied for third is Michaela Finn (Ängelholm, Sweden). After 36, Finn sits with a 1-under 143 score after carding an even-par score during round two. Finn birdied four times today and leads the tournament in par-3 scoring at 1-under and with nine total birdies.
Freshman Chloe Salort (Ermont, France) sits in fifth place at even par after two rounds of play. Salort finished the day at 2-over 74 with three birdies. Freshman Kory Nielsen (Kent, Ohio) rounds out the Flashes' lineup after moving up to a tie for tenth place. Nielsen repeated her first round score of 75 on Saturday with three birdies.
Kent State will compete for its record 20th straight conference championship Sunday in the final round of play. The third round tees off at 8 a.m. Sunday, while the Flashes will begin on hole one at 8:50 a.m. Live results are available at golfstat.com.
