Kent State Baseball's Skulina Named MAC East Player of the Week For Feb. 28-March 6
Kent State right-handed starting pitcher Tyler Skulina (Strongsville, Ohio) has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb. 28-March 6, the conference office announced today (March 12).
Skulina's honor marks Kent State's third conference player of the week award in as many weeks. Senior southpaw David Starn (Hudson, Ohio) was named MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 21 and junior outfielder Evan Campbell (Beloit Ohio) was named MAC East Division Player of the Week on Feb. 29.
Skulina tossed a two-hit shutout over six frames and recorded a career-high nine strikeouts March 4 at Western Kentucky, departing the game with a no decision and the contest locked in a scoreless tie.
Skulina is now 2-1 with a 2.31 ERA and is tied for the team lead in strikeouts with 26.
Kent State hits the West Coast next weekend (March 16-18) to battle Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif.
