Men’s Basketball Guaranteed At Least Nine Television Games This Season

Golden Flashes could add as many as four more regular season televised games

KENT, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference has announced the largest basketball television package in league history with the Kent State men's basketball team guaranteed at least nine televised games in the upcoming 2010-11 season.  The Golden Flashes are already scheduled for a total of four games on the ESPN's Family of Networks and  have another five on SportsTime Ohio (STO), the new home for MAC basketball.

On top of the nine scheduled games, there are three, 21-day advance selections and an ESPN BracketBuster game that could add as many as four more to the Kent State television package.  In addition the quarterfinals (STO), semifinals (STO) and Championship game (ESPN2, 6 p.m. ET) of the FirstEnergy MAC Men's Basketball Tournament on March 10-12 are also part of the record total of 36 televised games for the conference this season.

The most visible school in the conference on the ESPN Family of Networks the past three seasons, Kent State will make its first nationally televised appearance of the year on Nov. 16. The Golden Flashes host Robert Morris that morning at 8:00 a.m as part of ESPN's third annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon.  On Dec. 9, Kent State travels to perennial Southeastern Conference power Florida for an ESPN2 telecast.  Upon the return home, the Golden Flashes  welcome South Florida to the M.A.C. Center for an ESPNU broadcast at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 12.

During the heart of the conference schedule, Kent State makes another ESPNU appearance when the KSU program plays host to Central Michigan on Feb. 5.  Along with the nationally televised broadcast, the KSU Athletic Department is also hosting its 31st annual Varsity "K" Athletics Hall of Fame Celebration that same day.

The STO portion of the schedule gets under way on Jan. 8 when the Golden Flashes make the 14-mile trip over to Akron.  Kent State's game at Buffalo on Jan 19 will also be televised as will the Jan. 23 home game against Miami.  The final two scheduled STO games consist of Jan. 30 at home against Toledo and March 1 at Bowling Green.

The three 21-day selections in the MAC's TV schedule that Kent State could be chosen for are  on Feb. 2 at Western Michigan (STO), Feb. 26 vs Ohio (ESPNU) and the regular season finale on March 4 or 5 vs Akron (ESPNU).

Kent State has appeared on the ESPN family of networks six times last year alone and has made 16 appearances in the past five seasons.  SportsTime Ohio is a Northern Ohio regional sports network reaching 2.8 million homes and designed to offer a variety of sports programming produced for the Ohio sports fan.

If you can not catch the Golden Flashes on television be sure listen to all the games on the radio at WNIR 100.1 FM, your home for Kent State men's basketball.
