Kent State Cross Country Teams Continue Postseason Competition At NCAA Great Lakes Regional

The Kent State men's and women's cross country teams continue postseason competition Saturday (Nov. 12) at the 2011 NCAA Great Lakes Regional, hosted by Toledo at Ottawa Park.

 

The men's 10,000-meter race gets underway at noon with the women's 6,000-meter run following at 1:15 p.m. The top two teams on both sides will advance to the 2011 NCAA Championships, which will be Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind. The top 25 individual finishers on both sides will earn United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region recognition.

 

The Golden Flashes are looking to build on a fourth-place finish for the men's squad and a ninth-place finish for the women's team two weeks ago at the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championships. Redshirt junior Michael Heller (Stow, Ohio) took fourth with a time of 24:37.5. to earn First Team All-MAC accolades while redshirt sophomore Steve Fischer (Hudson, Ohio) garnered Second Team All-MAC selection with an 11th-place finish, crossing the finish line in 24:51.5. Redshirt sophomore Melinda Sawnor (Rochester, N.Y.) was Kent State's top finisher on the women's side, taking 38th in 22:39.5.
