
Track And Field Heads to Akron for Indoor MAC Championships

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State track and field teams head to rival Akron this weekend to compete for the Indoor MAC Championships. The two-day event at Stile Athletics Field House is scheduled to begin on Friday, Feb. 26th at 11 a.m. and conclude on Saturday, Feb. 27 beginning at 10 a.m.

Flashback to 2015 Indoor MAC Championships
Results
At last year's indoor championships hosted by Central Michigan, the women's team finished in third place with a total of 90.75 points.
Senior Dior Delophont was named Most Valuable Performer after capturing titles in the long jump and triple jump with marks of 5.95m (19' 6.25") and 12.86m (42' 2.25"), respectively. Deolphont added a second place finish in the high jump at 1.78m (5' 10").
Senior Danniel Thomas was named Most Outstanding Field Performer after breaking the Kent State and MAC Championship shot put records with a heave of 17.71m (58' 1.25").
The men's team also came away from last year's championship with a third place finish, scoring 91.50 points as a team.
Senior William Barnes claimed victories in the 60m hurdles and the 200 dash. Barnes posted a time of 7.90 in the 60m hurdles, while finishing the 200m at 21.84. In the 60m dash, Wayne Gordon claimed the top spot, posting a time of 6.83.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes last competed on Feb. 20 at home in the Kent State Tune-Up. In the 60m hurdles, William Barnes ran a 7.67, setting the school and Kent State Field House record.
Freshman Samory Fraga set a personal-best in the long jump with a mark of 7.39m (24' 3"), taking first place. Fellow freshman Brandon Harris took second in the 60m dash with a time of 6.81.
Reginald Jagers in the weight throw and Jesse Oxley in the pole vault, each came away victorious with marks of 20.08m (65' 10.5") and 5.2m (17' 0.75"), respectively.
On the women's side, junior Rebecca Leppelmeier and sophomore Gabrielle Figueroa each came away with victories in their respected events. Leppelmeier posted a mark of 13.96m (45' 9.75") in the shot put, while Figueroa posted a mark of 19.23m (63' 1.25") in the weight throw.
Dior Delophont took first in the high jump and second in the long jump at 1.8m and 5.74m, respectively.
In the one mile run, senior Taylor Wickey finished in second place with a personal-best time of 4:59.08, while Caroline Sauers took third in the 800m at 2:13.82.

After conclusion of the MAC Championships, the Golden Flashes look to send athletes to the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 11-12.
