CLEVELAND, Ohio – After tying for the national lead with 13 RBIs on the opening weekend at the Mercer Invitational, Maddy Grimm has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. It is the eighth time she has been recognized by the conference during her illustrious collegiate career.
Grimm moved into tie for fifth in MAC history after her staggering 13-RBI performance. She blasted a pair of 3-run homers and added a double to set a new career-high with 7 RBIs in Saturday night's win over Murray State. For the weekend, Grimm batted .357 and scored five runs. She showcased her speed with a triple against Portland State and four of her five hits went for extra bases, as she finished the weekend with a 1.000 slugging percentage. Â
The senior slugger surpassed Jessica Toocheck (2005-08) as Kent State's all-time leader for total bases with her three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning vs. Murray State and now has 347. Grimm is also the record-holder for RBIs (150) and home runs (52), ranking third in conference history in the latter.
Kent State (3-2) will head to Cathedral, California this weekend to play in the prestigious Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The Golden Flashes will play #9 Oregon in its tournament opener at 6 p.m. ET Friday.
