
Flashes Take Four Events on Day One of Akron Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – Kent State track and field was victorious in four events Friday evening at the Akron Invitational from Stile Athletics Field House.
The highlight of the night for Kent State was Cayla Carey's career-best performance in women's long jump blue division. Carey won the event with a mark of 5.92m 19' 5.25", moving her passed Kia Flowers (19' 4.75", 2001) for sixth place all-time in the Kent State record book.
Maria Horrigan came away with a victory in the women's pole vault blue division. Horrigan cleared the bar at 3.83m (12' 6.75) on her first attempt taking the victory just ahead of Morgan Estes who cleared the same height on her second attempt. In the fifth was Ally Thompson at a height of 3.68m (12' 0.75").
After day one of the men's heptathlon, TJ Lawson is in second place with 3,191 points having set personal-records in the long jump, high jump and 60m dash. Lawson took first in the long jump with a mark of 7.37m (24' 2"), second in the high jump at 2.02m 6' 7.5" and fourth in the 60m dash (7.14).
With 2,519 points and two PRs on the day one, Mitchell Kubicki finds himself in 13th place. Kubicki's PRs came in the 60m dash and the high jump, as he recorded marks of 7.21 seconds and 1.75m (5' 8.75"), respectively.
In a preview for the outdoor season, Reggie Jagers III took first in the discus with a heave of 58.52m (191' 11.75"), followed by Trevor Detillion in sixth at 51.76m (169' 9.75").
On the track, the women's distance medley relay team of Hannah Fleck, Tyler Williams, Lauren Burnett, and Swann Phelippeau were victorious, leading the field with a time of 11:58.82. Olivia Davis, Olivia Gaus, Sarah Pack and Caroline Sauers teamed up to take third with a time of 12:08.59.
On the men's side, the DMR team of Grant Onken, Matt Tobin, Andrew O'Leary and Josh Gogan came in third, logging a time of 10:19.98.
Madison Spreitzer was the top finisher for Kent State in the women's 5,000m run as she took eighth with a time of 18:10.72. In 10th behind Spreitzer was Morgan Bing (18:15.95), followed by Robin Foster in 17th (18:51.6) and Angelica Lucas in 19th (20:02.58).
Nick Schank was the lone representative for the Golden Flashes in the men's 5,000m, taking 11th with a time of 15:53.01.
