No. 12 Men's Golf In First at MAC Championship

NASHPORT, Ohio – The No. 12 Kent State University men's golf team is in first place after two rounds at the MAC Championship, help at the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
Kent State is the lone team under par at 1-under 575 (287-288). The Golden Flashes lead after day one due to consistent play. The race was tight after round one, with the Flashes holding a tight lead on the field. However, Kent State repeated its strong play in round two to build a seven stroke lead on second place Ball State.
In a tie for first place, Gisli Sveinbergsson started off the postseason with a fantastic performance. The sophomore is 6-under par at 138, tied with Ball State's Johnny Watts. Sveinbergsson shot a 4-under par 68 in round one and followed up with a 70 in round two. His 68 is the best round of the tournament and one off his career low round.
All four scorers for the Flashes rank in the top-15. Ian Holt is second on his squad and tied for fifth overall. Holt is currently 1-under par at 143. He started off with a 74, but followed up in round two with a 69 to climb up the leaderboard. With him in the top-10 is junior Chase Johnson at 1-over par 145. In ninth place, Johnson shot a 73 in round one and a 72 in round two.
Bjarki Petursson is currently tied for 14th overall at 5-over par 149. He shot an even par 72 in round one and a 77 in the second round. Rounding out the lineup was senior Josh Whalen in a tie for 34th. He carded a 77 in round one and a 79 in round two, putting him at 12-over par 156.
