CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State senior infielder Hunter Brancifort was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday (Feb. 13).
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Brancifort had a monster start to her senior season with eight RBIs this past weekend at the FGCU Kickoff Classic. Brancifort drove in seven of her runs against Penn State to lead Kent State to a two-game sweep of the Big Ten Conference member. Her grand slam in the bottom of the first inning helped the Golden Flashes run-rule the Nittany Lions, 11-0, on Saturday, as she also set a new career-high with five RBIs. Defensively, Brancifort did not commit any errors in 17 chances. The Pickerington, Ohio native carries a 3.893 GPA as a finance major.
The Golden Flashes will take a week off from competition before gearing up for an 11-day road swing against nationally ranked opponents. Kent State will compete at the Baylor Invitational from Feb. 22-24 and will play at least two top-25 teams in Louisiana and the host Lady Bears. Both teams have the chance to face KSU again in the true tournament format bracket.
