
Kent State Heads to Raleigh Relays for First Outdoor Track and Field Competition

In its first competition of the 2019 outdoor season, the Kent State track and field program will be in action this weekend at the Raleigh Relays. One of the largest outdoor track and field meets on the East Coast, the Raleigh Relays will run all day Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility.
The women's 5,000-meter run will start the action-packed weekend on Friday with the first heat scheduled for 9 a.m. Field events are slated to begin at 10 a.m. with the men's discus throw, women's shot put and women's high jump.
Saturday's action gets started at 9:30 a.m. with the final heat of the men's 10,000-meter run. The women's hammer throw will be the first field event of the day and is scheduled to get underway at 9:45 a.m.
Previewing the Flashes
Kent State has 41 student-athletes registered for individual competition this weekend, including six who competed at the NCAA East Preliminary Round last season.
Trevor Detillion, the reigning Mid-American Conference discus throw champion, will also compete in the shot put and is one of two Golden Flashes scheduled to compete in multiple events on the men's side. Jake Wickey will look to carry his success from the indoor season in the hammer throw and discus throw. Christian Champen and Evan Lesnick will compete in the pole vault invitational. DJ Ohlson, who placed third at the 2018 MAC Outdoor Championships, will participate in the high jump. Dairius Ragland (110m HH) and Clark Bookman (3K steeplechase) own top-10 marks in the Kent State record book. Additionally, two-time decathlon All-American TJ Lawson will begin his outdoor season in the long jump.
Gabby Bailey and Grace Tennant are entered in both the discus throw and shot put. Rachel Banks is also registered for two events and will run the 1,500-meter run on Friday and 800-meter run on Saturday. Maria Horrigan and Ally Thompson will compete in the pole vault invitational. Nicole Yeargin, a preliminary round qualifier a year ago in the 200-meter dash, will compete in the 100-meter dash. Mi'Angel Daniels will return to action after redshirting the 2018 outdoor season. Daniels placed third in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2017 MAC Outdoor Championships and owns the second-fastest time in school history.
How to Follow the Raleigh Relays
Live results will be available online for the duration of the meet with portions of both days being streamed on ACC Network Extra. Coverage will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and 1:20 p.m. on Saturday.
Next Up For Kent State
The Golden Flashes will head to the Northeast Ohio Quad next weekend. Youngstown State will host running and jumping events on Friday, April 5 and Akron will host throwing events on Saturday, April 6.
