KENT, Ohio – Kent State athletics hosted its 10th Annual Scholarship Auction at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center on Friday, April 22, and raised funds for student-athletes.
"It was great to have everyone back in the MAC Center supporting the core purpose of what we do, and that's provide access to higher education through scholarship," said Director of Athletics Randale L. Richmond. "Thank you to all those who supported our student-athletes and made the evening a tremendous success."
The Golden Flashes welcomed back Brian Winters as the guest of honor. In total, Kent State accommodated more than 300 guests to raise $120,000 during the event. The silent auction pulled in $33,000 while the live auction portion raised $12,000.
The Flasher Brass welcomed supporters in front of the MAC Center before guests made their way inside to an evening filled with gourmet food stations, an open bar and the opportunity to meet Kent State student-athletes and coaches.
At this year's event, Kent State football's Isaac Vance played the role of emcee and guided guests through the night's activities. Men's Basketball Head Coach Rob Senderoff auctioneered the live items at the end of the evening.
Winters was inducted into the Varsity "K" Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2021. He started every game in his Kent State career on the offensive line and holds the program record for career starts with 50. He was a three-time All-Conference lineman and earned the second Senior Bowl invite in program history. He went on to be drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the New York Jets and enjoyed a nine-year career with the Jets, Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals.
