KENT, Ohio – It was announced on Tuesday that Kent State goalkeeper Lieve Jansen has been awarded MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week. She earns the award after tallying nine saves in a narrow 1-0 defeat to App State on Friday and a heroic performance, including seven saves and three forced unsuccessful penalty strokes, in Sunday's thrilling 4-3 shootout victory at Michigan State.
Jansen was a dominant presence in the cage during both of the Flashes' matches over the weekend. Despite conceding one goal to App State, her nine saves, including seven in the second half, were key to keeping Kent State in the match to the final buzzer. Her impressive form continued into Sunday's road contest at Michigan State. Jansen's seven saves across regulation and overtime were key in forcing a penalty shootout in a match where the Flashes were out-shot 29-8. In the shootout, she proved to be the hero for Kent State, forcing three unsuccessful Spartan attempts and leading the Flashes to a huge road victory.
Jansen and the Flashes return to action on Friday as they head to Harrisonburg, Virginia to take on James Madison in a MAC conference matchup at 3 p.m.
