
Kent State Athletics Posts Record-Setting Semester in the Classroom

KENT, Ohio – Kent State Athletics student-athletes recorded the highest term grade-point average (GPA) in department history with an impressive 3.392 mark during the Fall 2024 semester. Additionally, the Golden Flashes' cumulative 3.371 GPA is the highest on record.
For just the second time in history, every team achieved a term GPA above 3.0 as the department as a whole has now posted 26 straight terms with a GPA over 3.0. The cumulative GPA for the department remains above 3.0 for the 27th consecutive semester.
Seven different teams achieved a GPA above 3.5, led by soccer's 3.759 and women's cross country's 3.718.
A total of seven teams — baseball, men's basketball, field hockey, football, soccer, men's track and field, and wrestling — posted program records for term GPA.
"The hard work our student-athletes put in every day in the classroom is quite impressive," Vice President, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Randale L. Richmond said. "The dedication to academic achievement by our coaches and academic staff is evident in the results. Each semester, our student-athletes continue to demonstrate why the investment in Kent State athletics is not just about athletic achievement, but also about academic excellence and holistic success."
Individually, 60 students (12%) had a perfect 4.0 semester. Nearly 60% (287) of student-athletes had a 3.4 GPA or higher this semester, while more than three-fourths of all student-athletes (78%) had a 3.0 or higher GPA.
