
Golden Flashes to Face #6 Alabama for the First Time Since 2002 NCAA Tournament

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The Kent State Men's Basketball team has started their season 8-2 for the first time since the 2019-2020 season. Most recently the blue and gold posted an 82-57 win over Mercyhurst on Dec. 15 in which four different Flashes tallied double-digits, and Marquis Barnett dropped a season and Kent State career high thus far of 15 points. The Golden Flashes will now travel to take on the Crimson Tide of the University of Alabama on Dec. 22. Tipoff against the sixth ranked Tide is set for 1:00 p.m. eastern time. It will be the second matchup up with an opponent ranked inside the top 10 this season. VonCameron Davis enters the game just seven points shy of 1,000 is his Kent State career.
Against the Crimson Tide
The Kent State Golden Flashes and Alabama Crimson Tide have met twice in the history of the programs. Kent State has a 1-1 record overall against the Tide. Their first meeting was in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 30, 1984, where Kent State fell 64-65. Their most recent meeting was in the second round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament in Greenville, S.C. as Antonio Gates, Trevor Huffman, John Edwards and the Golden Flashes defeated Alabama on their way to their historic run to the Elite 8. Alabama Head Coach Nate Oats is familiar with Kent State having been the previous Assistant then Head Coach at Buffalo.

Next Up for Kent State
Following their clash with the Tide, Kent State will return to the M.A.C. Center on Sunday, Dec. 29 to host Heidelberg University. The game is the second of a home hoops doubleheader with the Kent State Women's Basketball team, and is tentatively scheduled for 3:30 p.m. following the women's tipoff against John Carroll at 1:00p.m.
