Irelan Named MAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

CLEVELAND — Kent State sophomore Macy Irelan has been named Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Irelan dominated in the circle with a 3-0 record, 0.52 ERA and .103 opponent batting average over 17.1 innings last week. She totaled 22 strikeouts and only two walks while tossing two complete games, including a shutout. After allowing a home run to the first batter Wednesday against Youngstown State, Irelan did not allow a run the rest of the week. She had a season-high 11 strikeouts in a shutout effort against Manhattan on Saturday and added five strikeouts while keeping the Jaspers hitless over the final 3.1 innings to earn the victory in Sunday's series finale.
The Golden Flashes will open MAC play on the road with a three-game series at Ball State on Friday and Saturday.
