
A return to Royal Oaks on Monday and Tuesday for Men's Golf

DALLAS – An unusual format awaits Kent State Men's Golf in the Lone Star State on Monday and Tuesday when it takes part in the Royal Oaks Invitational at the 7,068-yard, par-71 Royal Oaks Club.
All 13 teams in the field will play in their own groups, with Kent State's fivesome of Ian Holt, Chase Johnson, Bjarki Petursson, Gisli Sveinbergsson and Chris Doody teeing off together on the first tee at 8:15 a.m. on Monday to begin round one and then at 1 p.m. for round two. The final round will begin at 8:30 am.. on Tuesday.
Kent State begins the week at No. 15 in the GCAA men's golf rankings. The field includes two more of the nation's top 25 teams in tournament host and 8th-ranked Baylor and No. 17 Arkansas. Also competing are Charlotte, Houston, Iowa, Liberty, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Pepperdine, Southern Methodist, and Texas-San Antonio.
Baylor is the defending champion, ending a run of three consecutive titles by Oklahoma State from 2012-2014. The 2015 event was canceled due to flooding. Kent State finished fourth in 2016 with a 6-over-par total of 1,071. Johnson led the Flashes that week, finishing alone in fifth place individually at 6-under. This will be KSU's second appearance in the tournament that debuted in 2008.
The Royal Oaks Club is known as the home course of former United States Amateur and British Open champion Justin Leonard. Designed by Don January and Billy Martindale, it opened in 1969 and was renovated in 1985 by Jay Morrish.
