Reese One Step Closer to Eugene

TAMPA, Fla. – Riak Reese advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's 100-meter dash lead Kent State on the opening day of competition at the 2018 NCAA East Preliminary Championships.
Reese secured his spot in the next round by placing third in his heat with a time of 10.35. He will compete in the third heat of the event on Friday, which is slated to start at 1:30 p.m. The top-3 runners from each heat plus the next best three times among remaining competitors will advances to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Samory Fraga came up a little short in his attempt at a second straight trip to the NCAA Championships and placed 15th in the men's long jump with a top mark of 24'-9.75".
In the women's javelin throw, Vanessa Vodan finished 17th with a top throw of 153'.
Christian Champen and Evan Lesnick represented the Golden Flashes in the men's pole vault. Champen tied for 27th with a top clearance of 16'-4.75" and Lesnick was unable to record an official height.
Kent State's seven athletes set to compete on Friday will get the action started early with Trevor Detillion in the men's discus throw at 8:45 a.m. Maria Horrigan, Ally Thompson and Sam Tollerud are scheduled to compete in the women's pole vault at 9:30 a.m. On the track, Riak Reese will run in the quarterfinals of the men's 100-meter dash at 1:30 p.m. and then the first round of the men's 200-meter dash at 3 p.m. Nicole Yeargin will conclude the day for the Flashes in the women's 200-meter dash at 3:25 p.m.
