
Case Advances to Nationals; Gymnastics Finished 4th at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. – Kent State senior Marie Case (Erie, Pa.) advanced to the NCAA National Championships in the All-Around as she led the gymnastics team to a fourth place finish at the NCAA Central Region in Baton Rouge, La. hosted by LSU on Sat., April 5 in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The Golden Flashes wrapped up their season with a overall record of 17-8 with a of 195.125 in Baton Rouge Saturday.
Kent State's rotation order was - first on the uneven bars, followed by the balance beam, a bye round, the floor and finished up on the vault before sitting out the last rotation.
The Bars lineup started off with Kelsey Lawless followed by Whitnee Johnson, Chelsea Drooger, Jaymi Baxter, Rebecca Osmer and then Marie Case.
Osmer turned in the top score for the Golden Flashes with a 9.800 as Case had a 9.775. Johnson came next with a 9.750 followed by Baxter with a 9.700. Drooger and Lawless rounded out the scoring with a 9.350 and a 9.000, respectively.
The Balance Beam line saw Nicole Radon score a 9.750, Chelsea Drooger a 9.600 as Kayla Kosmerl had a 9.725. Jordan Hardison scored 9.125, Nicolle Eastman had a 9.800 with Marie Case at 9.850.
After two rotations, the Golden Flashes had a team score of 97.100 with a 48.375 on bars and a 48.725 on beam.
Kent State's floor order was Nicole Radon, Nicolle Eastman, Samantha Gordon, Jordan Hardison, Amiah Mims and Marie Case.
The Golden Flashes scored a 49.275 on Floor as Case anchored the group with a 9.900. Mims turned in a 9.875 followed by Gordon at 9.850. Hardison and Eastman scored a 9.825 as Radon had a 9.800.
After three full events for Kent State, they had a team total of 146.375 heading into the final event of the day, the vault. Jaymi Baxter went first as Jordan Hardison, Kelsey Lawless, Amiah Mims, Chelsea Drooger and Marie Case followed, respectively.
Kent State wrapped up their day on the vault with a team total of 48.750. Case led the way with a 9.800, followed by Drooger and Hardison who each scored a 9.775. Baxter turned in a 9.750 as Mims and Lawless both had 9.650.
Marie Case completed her career as a Golden Flash with an All-Around score of 39.325 as tied for fifth, and remained perfect to any other Mid-American Conference Gymnast as there were three Bowling Green gymnast that competed in the All-Around. Marie Case was named the NACGC/W Central Region Co-Gymnast of the Year following the competition Saturday in the Pete Maravich Assmebly Center.
