Beauty & the Beast: Gymnastics's Season High Leads to Victory Over Pitt Friday

KENT, OHIO – On a career night in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center, for the third annual Beauty and the Beast event, Kent State's gymnastics team defeated Pittsburgh 195.750 to 191.175 in front of over 2,000 spectators in the dual event with the Wrestling team.
The Golden Flashes (2-3, 1-1 MAC) saw 10 career-highs during the competition on a night that the team set a season high that was led by Rachel Stypinski and Skyelee Lamano who both set two career-highs on two events. Both gymnasts set career marks on the floor, Stypinski at 9.9 and Lamano at 9.8, while Stypinski set one on beam, 9.9, and Lamano on bars, 9.850.
Brooke Timko led off the night with a victory and career-high on vault with a 9.875, as the Flashes scored a 48.725. Chelsea Drooger followed Timko on the team, as she finished in third place with a 9.800.
During the second rotation, where Kent State scored a team total of 49.150 on bars, Ali Marrero, Rebecca Osmer, Michaela Romito and Chelsea Drooger all placed within the top-four. Marrero and Osmer tied to win the event with a 9.875 and Lamano took third with 9.85. Romito and Droogers' 9.775 placed them in a tie for fourth place. Marrero, Osmer, Lamano, Romito and Timko all had career-high's on the event.
On beam for Kent State, who finished with a team total 48.925, Stypinski led the way with a career-high 9.9, as Nicolle Eastman took third with a 9.8. Drooger took fourth with a career-high 9.775 while Marrero came in fifth at 9.75.
On the final event of the night, Kent State scored a 48.925 and saw Stypinski score a career-high 9.9 as she won her second event of the night. Jordan Hardison came in second with a 9.875 and Lamano's career-high 9.8 put her in third.
On the Wrestling mat next to the gymnastics events, Kent State defeated Eastern Michigan 25-9.
With the loss, Pittsburgh fell to 2-5 overall as they scored team totals of 47.850 (vault), 48.275 (bars), 47.875 (beam), and 47.175 (floor) to get their final score of 191.175.
Kent State will travel to Ypsilanti, Michigan on Saturday, February 7, as they face Eastern Michigan. They are scheduled to start at 4pm against the Eagles.
