KENT, Ohio- Director of Golf/Head Men's Golf Coach Herb Page has announced the 2015-16 men's golf team scholarship recipients from the program's $1.5 million endowment.
"The scholarship support from friends of the program and alums is the difference maker when attracting talented student-athletes," said Senior Associate Athletic Director/Executive Director for Athletic Advancement Matt Geis. "It has also momentously assisted our program in remaining a constant presence on the national stage."
"We are extremely fortunate to have a group of donors who care about the success of our program," said Page. "The endowed scholarships take a lot of pressure off the budgetary line and enables us to compete at a high national level. We are here to educate student-athletes and all of these donors/endowments enable us to do so."
Sophomore Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio) was awarded the Ben & Candace Curtis Endowed Golf Scholarship and the Richard Rango Men's Golf Endowed Scholarship. Curtis, a three-time All-American who graduated in 2000, won the British Open in 2003 and has four career victories on the PGA Tour. He and his wife Candace founded the Ben Curtis Family Foundation to help alleviate childhood hunger.
"It's an honor to receive their scholarship because they are such respected people and do so much for our golf program," said Holt.
Holt, a 2015 Second Team All-MAC honoree and All-Tournament team selection, had a solid fall season for the Golden Flashes. Holt competed in five tournaments and earned a season-best finish, second, at the Cleveland State Invitational with a 6-under par.

Cassell, a champion for the game of golf throughout his lifetime, is best known as the founder of the Hudson Junior Invitational Golf Tournament, which has been one of the top junior golf tournaments in the nation since its inception in 1979. The scholarship, funded by an endowment set up through the Cassell family in honor of Howard who passed away in March 2009.
"It's an honor to receive scholarships from people who are so dedicated to helping our program," said Johnson. "I just hope I can make them proud by continuing to improve both my game and my academics to help Kent State."

He earned second place, a season best, with a 6-under par at the Cleveland State Invitational, while his 54-hole score of 210 was the best of his career. Johnson also had a stellar performance at the Bank of Tennessee, finishing 3-under for fourth place to earn Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week.
