
Three Former Kent State Golfers Solidify Spots on the Web.com Tour

KENT, Ohio- Three Kent State University golf alums celebrated career milestones this past weekend after being granted their Web.com Tour cards. Taylor Pendrith '14, Mackenzie Hughes '12, and Ryan Yip '06 all qualified for the tour after finishing in the Top-45 at the Web.com Tour Q-School Tournament held at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Along with their birth on the Web.com Tour, these Golden Flashes also share storied careers from their time at Kent State. All three golfers were individual MAC Championship Medalists in their respective careers at Kent State.
"I am very proud of these three young men," said Director of Golf/Head Men's Golf Coach Herb Page. "They aren't chasing their dream any more, they are living their dream right now and playing on one of the biggest stages of professional golf. This is the last step before they get to the PGA Tour. They were all exceptional players at Kent State and their great work ethic is truly paying off. We are very proud of what they have accomplished and proud they are representing Kent State on the Web.com Tour."
Pendrith finished 5-under (T14) at the Q-School tournament with rounds of 68-72-72-69. Pendrith was the individual MAC Championship Medalist in 2013, the first year in which he was named Mid-American-Conference Golfer of the year. In 2014, he was named Co-MAC Golfer of the Year and earned All American honors. He is also one of two golfers in Kent State history to play in four NCAA Championships.
Hughes finished 4-under (T21) at the Q-school tournament with rounds of 69-71-69-73. Hughes, the individual MAC Championship Medalist in 2011, was a two-time First Team All-MAC recipient and is tied for sixth in Kent State history with three career wins. Hughes was also named MAC Freshman of the Year in 2009.
Yip finished 3-under (T34) at the Q-School tournament with rounds of 67-72-70-74. In 2005, Yip was named Co-MAC Golfer of the Year after becoming the individual MAC Championship Medalist. In all four years of his career at Kent State, Yip was named First Team All-MAC and in 2003, was named MAC Freshman of the Year. Alongside Hughes, Yip is tied for sixth in Kent State history with three career victories.
