Gymnastics Defeats Temple in Season Opener on Sunday

KENT, Ohio – Kent State's gymnastics team defeated Temple in the season and home opener with a score of 195.150 to 188.450 on Sunday, January 10th inside the Memorial Athletics and Convocation Center.
Kent State moves to 1-0 on the season as the Golden Flashes posted team scores of 48.575 (vault), 49.125 (bars), 48.425 (beam) and a 49.025 (floor) for their total of 195.150.
Temple falls to 0-2 on the season as they posted team scores of 47.125 (vault), 47.450 (bars), 46.800 (beam) and a 47.075 (floor) to make up their total of 188.450.
The Flashes leave the arena with sweeping first place on each event on the night. Dara Williams and Sarah Lippowitsch start off their Kent State career's with first place victories on the vault and beam, respectively. Williams won the vault with a 9.850 as Lippowitsch won the beam with a 9.750. Rachel Stypinski won the other two events, bars and floor, with 9.900 on both.
Jordan Hardison, Kennedy Plude and Brooke Timko all tied for second, 9.700, on vault behind Williams.
Ali Marrero, Brooke Timko, Skyelee Lamano, and Sarah Lippowitsch all finished in the top-five behind Stypinski on the Bars. Marrero took second, 9.875, as Timko and Lamano tied for third at 9.800. Lippowitsch rounded out the top-five at a 9.750.
Nicolle Eastman finished second on beam behind Lippowitsch with a 9.725, where Plude and Marrero tied for third at 9.700.
On floor, Jordan Hardison took second with a score of 9.850. Eastman took third at 9.825 as Kayla Kosmerl took fourth at 9.775.
Kent State will return to action on Friday, January 15th when they travel to Utah State to take on the Aggies at 7pm.
