Kent State recently released its non-conference schedule along with home and away Mid-American Conference opponents for the 2016 football season. Conference game dates and season ticket information will be announced at a later time.
The Golden Flashes will play all four of their non-conference games in September and will open the season visiting a Big Ten opponent for the second straight year. In matching up with Penn State (Sept. 3) and defending national champion Alabama (Sept. 24), the Flashes will take center stage at a pair of 100,000-seat stadiums.
Fans can head to Dix Stadium on back-to-back Saturdays in September as Kent State hosts North Carolina A&T (Sept. 10) and Monmouth (Sept. 17). Both will be first-time program meetings. North Carolina A&T is coming off a MEAC championship and a Celebration Bowl victory.
With 12 conference teams in 2016, each MAC program will face all five teams in its division and play three crossover games. West Division opponents include home games against Northern Illinois and Western Michigan and a trip to Central Michigan for the first time since 2004. All three played in bowl games in 2015.
MAC East rivals Akron and Ohio, who also made 2015 bowl appearances, will come to Dix Stadium. Road games against the East will include Bowling Green, Buffalo and Miami.
The Flashes will be visiting alumnus Nick Saban at Bryant-Denny Stadium for the second time in six years and will head to Beaver Stadium for the third time in seven years.
To pre-order tickets for the Penn State and Alabama games, call the Kent State Ticket Office at 330-672-2244. Tickets will first be allocated to members of The Golden Flashes Club, then to the general public.
