
Tolbert Breaks Own Triple Jump Record; T&F Falls Short in Akron Dual

KENT, Ohio- Just one week after setting the Kent State men's triple jump record, senior Donovan Tolbert set a new record after with a 16.18m (53' 1"). His impressive score also ties South Florida's Matthew O'Neal for the second-best triple jump in the nation.
However, the men's and women's track & field teams both came up short against the visiting Akron Zips on Friday, as the men fell 82-68 and the women lost 80-71.
In a competitive men's 60m dash, sophomore Jonathan Grant came out on top with a personal best time of 6.79. Grant's time ties him with Nate Scale (2011) for eighth in the Kent State record book.
Senior William Barnes edged out the Zips in the 60m hurdles and the 200m dash with times of 7.76 and 21.26, respectively. Barnes' time of 7.76 is just shy of his personal record of 7.75.
Junior Reggie Jagers captured his second weight throw victory in as many weeks with a mark of 20.36m (66' 9.75"). In the shot put for the Golden Flashes, senior Micheal King had the top mark at 17.24m (56' 6.75").
On the women's side, senior Taylor Farquhar was also victorious for the second week in a row. With a time of 55.44, Farquhar set a personal record and moved herself into seventh all-time in Kent State history, passing Erica Hutson (2014, 55.48). Sophomore Tyler Williams joins Farquhar in the 400m record book with a time of 55.6, good enough for 10th all-time. In the 4x400m relay, Farquhar and Williams were accompanied by junior Chelsea Laury and junior Jorian Ordway to take first place with a 3:44.49.
The Golden Flashes took the top two spots in the pole vault with junior Morgan Estes and sophomore Sam Tollerud finishing at 4.03m (13' 2.5"). Estes completed the vault on the first attempt, while Tollerud completed the vault on her second attempt giving Estes the victory.
In her first time competing in the 3,000m run for the Golden Flashes, freshmen Olivia Davis captured first place with a time of 10:26.19.
The Golden Flashes track and field teams return to action on Friday, February 5th at the Akron Invitational.
