CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Kent State-Akron rivalry will once again be on the national stage, as the first of two matchups this season between the Mid-American Conference rivals on Friday, February 19 will be aired on ESPNU, the conference office announced Thursday afternoon. The game will begin at 6 p.m. tip at the M.A.C. Center and will also be available on ESPN3, WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app on mobile devices.
Originally scheduled to be played at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, the contest has been moved up a day as the MAC's wildcard selection for ESPNU's primetime spot.
The MAC's biggest hardwood rivalry will be televised for the 31st consecutive time, which is the longest streak in the conference. Separated by a mere 14 miles, Kent State and Akron have met 143 times on the hardwood with the Golden Flashes holding a 72-71 advantage in the all-time series.
The game will be the fourth nationally-televised contest for the Golden Flashes, who took on Penn State in the consolation game of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic on FS1 on December 23, hosted Buffalo for a CBS Sports Network broadcast on January 8 and travel to Ohio for an ESPNU broadcast tomorrow night.
Kent State is off to a 15-5 start to the 100th season in program history and is in sole possession of first-place in the conference standings at 6-1. The Flashes will look for a season sweep of Ohio for the second straight year on the road against Ohio on Friday at 9 p.m.
The Flashes will return to the M.A.C. Center when it hosts Toledo on Saturday, February 6 at 7 p.m. to begin a stretch of four of five games at home. Tickets can be purchased over the phone by calling 330-672-2244, at the M.A.C.
